WHAT TO DO AND SEE IN SPARTANBURG

Chapman Cultural Center – located on 200 East Saint John St. in downtown Spartanburg since 2007, the center houses various cultural events such as stage performances, visual arts, music for both local citizens and visitors.

 

The cultural center can be visited for free from Tuesday to Saturday, and it includes the Spartanburg Science Center, Artists' Guild Gallery, Spartanburg Regional History Museum and Spartanburg Art Museum.

 

In fact, Chapman Cultural Center can be considered a place that presents the amazing culture of Upstate South Carolina through its variety of dance studios, art studios, galleries and the 500-seat David Reid Theatre.

 

American Legion Post 28 Military Museum – located at Duncan Park, the museum houses military artifacts such as weapons, uniforms, captured enemy equipment, military awards and decorations from WW I, WWII, Korea, Vietnam until present times.

 

Hub City Railroad Museum – right on Magnolia Street, at the Train Depot, the museum exhibits artifacts such as a working telegraph machine and presents the history of the Hub City.

 

Morgan Square – also known as the historic district of the city of Spartanburg, the public square’s purpose was to be the seat of Spartan District in 1787 and only in 1887 it became Morgan Square.

 

The tradition that still exists today supposes that each Monday, wagons with provisions and goods from the countryside and the North Carolina mountains gather in Morgan Square and many of them actually camp beside the spring behind the courthouse. Currently, the square is home to the town clock, a combination city hall and an auditorium.

 

The Showroom – housing a film screen, a stage, and a concert venue, along with a gallery, the Showroom is home of Hub-Bub, a project that was addressed at keeping creative talent for progressive art inside the community.

 

The Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium – opened in 2002, the auditorium has been housing many and various events, featuring famous names at concerts and other shows.
