Livingston is a city located in Sumter County, Alabama State, famous for its University of West Alabama and an important center of health and natural resources.

 

The city was chosen as the Sumter County's seat in 1833 and its name was given after a famous statesman, Edward Livingston. Currently the city of Livingston is a fast-growing city with a promising future ahead and a developing economy.

 

It is served by several industrial parks and its location between Tuscaloosa and Meridian, Mississippi provide Livingston with many travelers and traffic.

 

Although it is not a big city, Livingston still offers a wide variety of activities to is visitors and inhabitants, but also students at the University of West Alabama.

>> Bored Well - built in 1857 and renovated throughout the years, the well that can currently be found on the Courthouse Square, was finished in 1924.

>> City Hall - the current building is home to Livingston City Hall since 2002, but until tit was renovated in 2001, the construction served as a train depot for passenger and freight services.

 

It was used for freight on the left side and for passengers on the right side, and even when it stopped running for its main purpose in the 1970's, the current City Hall was used as a freight office for local industries.

 

>> Courthouse - the present courthouse was built in 1902 and it is located in downtown Livingston. It is now used for housing the courtroom, tax collector and some other offices.

 

>> Jaycee Neighborhood Park - the park, located in the northwest part of Livingston, offers many facilities for outdoor events and activities such as baseball and softball fields, a swimming pool, some playground equipment and even a ball field, since 2005.

>> Sucarnochee Folklife Festival - named after the river that flows through Livingston, the Sucarnochee Folklife Festival is an event that takes place every year and it is sponsored by the University of West Alabama.

 

It takes place in downtown Livingston, around Courthouse Square and it ensures entertainment in various areas such as music, cooking, crafts, wood carvings and others, and the most important thing is that the festival presents the tradition of Livingston to its visitors and everybody can actively participate in the activities developed during the festival days.
