ATTRACTIONS

Taste a bit of the local history by visiting the Cape River Heritage Museum, which can be found on Independence Street.

 

Spend a fund day out in the nature with the family at Cape Girardeau County Park, located on County Park Drive.

 

See the Cape Girardeau Mural River Wall, on N Water Street, which is the largest and most dramatic of the city’s murals.

 

See the Houck Stadium, home to the Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks football team and Women’s Soccer team.

 

Visit the Glenn House, on South Spanish Street, a piece of the city’s history, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

 

Sports & outdoor events

The City of Roses Half Marathon, 5K & Fun Run, which takes place in September, is considered to be one of Cape Girardeau’s most popular annual sporting events.

 

The course of the race is a mix of city streets and scenic bike paths, along Cape Girardeau’s Cape LaCroix Creek bike trail, and it starts and finishes at Southeast Missouri Hospital’s HealthPoint Plaza on Independence Street.

 

On September 20, 2009, the run has celebrated its 29th annual edition, and as always, the event attracted hundreds of enthusiastic runners who participated in all 3 runs offered, a much larger number of participants being expected to attend the 2010 edition of this entertaining road race.

 

Festivals

The Annual ArtsCape Community Arts Festival, which happens in May, is considered to be among Cape Girardeau’s most favorite and expected annual celebrations. This fabulous event features music and entertaining activities for the entire family, including a fun street painting, which is a delight for the little ones.

 

The goal of the festivals is to encourage artistic awareness and expression, in hope to stimulate the exchange of new ideas and build a shared sense of community, in a fun and entertaining manor. If you missed this year’s Community Arts Festival, be sure not to miss next year’s celebration!
