Sports & outdoor events

Brooksie Way Half Marathon & 5K Race Walk – October 3, 2010.

The race was named after Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson’s son Brooks Stuart Patterson, who passed away in a snowmobiling accident in 2007. Plans for a half-marathon race were initiated by his father, as part of local health and wellness initiative, just before Brooksie’s untimely passing, so it was decided that the race will be named after him, in his memory.

This year, in October, the inaugural race will be held on the green spaces and tree-lined roads of Rochester’s Oakland University, and organizers promise that the course will be as challenging and as scenic as any other US half-marathon, being held through biking and hiking trails, along local rivers and creeks, giving participants the chance to also do some sightseeing, along the way.

Festivals

Rochester Heritage Festival – May 29-30, Municipal Park.

Perhaps the best way to really experience Rochester is to participate in the Annual Rochester Festival, which is a popular celebration that offers visitors a special weekend, every year, in May, in which the city’s rich and unique heritage is highlighted through entertaining family-friendly activities, including exhibits that reveal the city’s history, from the beginning, until the present day, fun games, crafts, delicious food, quality music and much, much more.

If you plan to visit Rochester, be sure to mark this fabulous event on your ‘’ to do and see’’ list – you won’t regret it!
