Saint Joseph is known for being the place where the Pony Express began in 1860, and where the notorious Jesse James met his end in 1882. But that's not what the city is only known for - Saint Joseph is a wonderful place to visit, a vibrant suburban city offering upscale shopping, fine dining and a wealth of exciting things to see and do, among its most popular and favorite attractions being:

- The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art, which houses one of the finest collections of 18th, 19th and 20th century art in the midwest with over 3000 works.

- Jesse James Home Museum, which marks the place where Outlaw Jesse James was shot and killed. The exhibits include artifacts from Jesse's grave during the 1995 exhumation which showed a 99.7% certainty that it was Jesse who was shot in St. Joseph in 1882.

- Remington Nature Center, which provides a unique experience, featuring history-related exhibits, a 7,000 gallon freshwater aquarium, and a large variety of different pelts, including deer, skunk, opossum, squirrel, red fox, beaver, and coyote, among others.

- Black Archives Museum, featuring exhibits on such topics as the Underground Railroad, the Middle Passage, Desegregation, Education, Music, Sports, and other aspects of African-American history in St. Joseph.

Annual Events

St. Joseph's Annual Trails West Festival, An Arts and Music Festival, which happens in August, is considered to be Northwest Missouri's premier event. It is a 3-day celebration that highlights St. Joseph's cultural heritage, through the visual, literary and performance arts.
