Public Transportation

The Amtrak station, in Charlotte, is located on N Tryon near Dalton, on bus route 11, but it is not the visitors’ first choice, most of them using the bus or driving their way into the city.

 

Major Highways and Roads

 

I-85 – intersects with I-77, near Charlotte’s city center.

I-277 – it’s a loop freeway that encircles Charlotte’s downtown area.

Charlotte Route 4 - links major roads in a loop between I-277 and I-485.

Independence Freeway - carries US 74 and links downtown with the Matthews area.

US 74 – locally known as Independence Boulevard (east of Uptown).

Continue straight onto R C Josh Birmingham Pkwy., and take the Billy Graham Pkwy N ramp to I-85. Merge onto Billy Graham Pkwy., and turn right to merge onto I-85 N, toward Concord. Take exit 42 for US-29/N Carolina 49 and continue straight onto N Tryon Street. Make a slight right at University City Blvd., and make a U-turn at Suther Road. Take the 1st right onto Broadrick Blvd. UNC Charlotte will be on the right.
