The Annual AIDS Walk is a student-led event, organized by the students from the University of Georgia, in hope to raise money for a great cause, consisting of a walk and a 5 k timed run race, benefiting AIDS Athens, which is a non-profit organization serving the Athens area as well as other 10 surrounding counties.

 

Everyone is welcome to participate at this event, dedicated for those affected by the ruthless AIDS disease. The goals set by the organization are to raise money through the annual AIDS Walk/Run and to increase the public awareness about HIV and AIDS.

 

Festivals

Athfest is a famous local music festival, happening in summer, featuring musical performances of more than 100 regional and local bands, many fun family activities, seminars, film screenings and a Kid Fest. It's a great way to spend a fun day out with the family and interact with other people.

 

Another popular annual festival, taking place every year in Athens, is the Classic City Brew Fest, dedicated to beer lovers, but not only, offering visitors the chance to enjoy more than 400 types of beer each year. There is a 10 ticket limit per person and the admission fee is $39.95 plus taxes.

Nightlife

During the Civil War, Athens City became the centre for music in the region, gaining more fame by founding the Morton Theatre, and by the fact that it is known as being the home of many famous bands, such as R.E.M and B-52's, as well as several favorite indie-rock groups.
