WHAT TO DO AND SEE IN ANCHORAGE

Alaska Native Heritage Center - located ten miles from downtown Anchorage, the center includes the Hall of Cultures, Theatre and Gathering which host a series of activities and demonstrations meant to present in a very interactive way the heritage of Alaska's 11 major cultural groups. Alaska Native Heritage Center is open daily and a visit will take around 3 or 4 hours.

 

 

Anchorage Museum - located in downtown Anchorage, on 625 C St., it exhibits art, history and science at the History Gallery, Art of the North Galleries and the Imaginarium Discovery Center. The museum includes also a new venue, the Smithsonian Arctic Studies Center which offers 600 historical objects never before on view in Alaska.

 

 

Alaska Botanical Garden - located South of Tudor Road at 4601 Campbell Airstrip Road, in Anchorage, the first gardens were opened to public in 1993 and currently they are home to more than 1,100 species of perennials and 150 native plant species and it is definitely a relaxing place to go while traveling to Anchorage, Alaska, especially if you visit the city with your children who will enjoy the natural surroundings.

 

 

The Alaska Zoo - located in South Anchorage, the zoo houses many arctic and sub-arctic animals and it provides learning programs for children. The zoo also features visiting programs and events such as Sketch-N-Safari, Storytime and others.

 

 

Alaska SeaLife Center - it is the only public aquarium and ocean wildlife rescue center in the country. Both tourists and locals can enjoy a unique experience of meeting a wide variety of marine animals such as Steller sea lions, puffins and octopus. It is a perfect opportunity for a day out with the family and it also offers educational richness to its visitors.

 

 

Fourth Avenue Theatre - also called the Lathrop Building, the theatre is registered as a historic place and it was built in 1947. Currently, the theatre is owned by Rasmuson Foundation and it is used by the Anchorage Convention and Visitors Bureau for different meetings.
