The public transportation service in Portland is offered by Amtrak, MAX and TriMet.

Amtrak provides service to Portland from all along the west coast, with the Cascades service running 2 trains a day, between the city and Eugene to the south, also providing 3 additional trains between Portland and Seattle to the north, a few of them even going further north to Vancouver.

For long distance service, Portland is served daily by the Coast Starlight, which runs the length of the West Coast (Seattle-Portland-San Francisco Bay Area-Los Angeles).

TriMet maintains Bus, Streetcar, and MAX Light Rail throughout the Portland area, through 4 MAX Light Rail lines: the Blue Line, the Red Line, the Yellow Line and the Green Line. The fares depend on the traveled distance, but a two hour ticket that covers all fare zones costs $2.30, and all-day tickets are $4.75. Take exit 21B to merge onto I-84 W/US-30 W, toward Portland, and then take the exit on the left onto I-5 S, toward Beaverton/Salem. Continue onto I-405 N (follow the signs for US-26/City Center/Beaverton). Take exit 1C to merge onto SW 6th Avenue and turn left at SW Montgomery St. Turn left at SW Broadway. PSU will be on the right.
