Bus

 

The public bus transportation service, throughout the city, is provided by the Greensboro Transit Authority, which also offers a service called HEAT (Higher Education Area Transit) that links the downtown Greensboro attractions to the universities and colleges in the area. The regional public transportation, throughout the metropolitan area, is offered by PART (Piedmont Area Regional Transportation).

 

Rail

 

The city is served by Amtrak, through J. Douglas Gaylon Depot downtown, with Amtrak’s daily Crescent, Carolinian and Piedmont trains connecting Greensboro with various cities, including New York, Washington, Birmingham and New Orleans.

 

Major Highways and Roads

 

I-40 – also known in Greensboro as Preddy Boulevard – passes through much of the city’s metropolitan area.

I-85 – merges with I-40, from Greensboro to Hillsborough, just west of Durham; passes though (or near) Salisbury, Lexington and High Point, before reaching Greensboro.

I-85 Business - consists of two sections, separated by a 2-mile area, one of which passes trough Greensboro, the other being in Spartanburg, SC.

I-73 – it is located entirely within the U.S. state of North Carolina; runs for 7.5 miles along the southwestern portion of the Greensboro Urban Loop.

From Piedmont Triad International Airport: Head southwest, toward Service Center Dr., and continue straight onto Service Center Dr. Turn right at Radar Road and left at Old Friendly Road. Turn left at W Friendly Avenue and make a slight right onto the ramp to I-40/Greensboro/Winston-Salem. Merge onto I-73 S and take exit 1 to merge onto I-40 E/US-421, S toward Greensboro. Continue to follow I-40 E and take exit 39 to merge onto US-220 N/US-29 N/US-70 E/S O Henry Blvd., toward Reldsville. Continue to follow US-220 N/US-29 N/US-70 E and make a slight right toward E Market Street. Turn right at E Market Street. NC A&T will be on the right.
