Have quality family fun at The Hampton Carousel, on Settlers Landing Road, one of the only 170 antique wooden carousels still working in USA.

 

Explore the Sandy Bottom Nature Park, situated on Big Bethel Road, a recreational facility that spreads on nearly 500 acres of beautiful surroundings, with 2 lakes, hiking and biking trails, wetland areas, fishing spots, picnic areas and much more.

 

Visit the Virginia Air & Space Center, located on Settlers Landing Road, where you can find out interesting things about space and space programs. You can explore meteorites from outer space or step inside the Apollo 12 Command Module, and even float in the fun Space Ball.

 

See St. John's Church, on West Queens Way, which is the oldest English-speaking parish in USA, dating since 1728, the only building in town which survived the devastating fire during the Civil War.

 

Sports & outdoor events

Every year, on Labor Day weekend, one of the largest half marathons in the world, happens in Virginia Beach, which is only 30 minutes, by car, from Hampton, known as Virginia Beach Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon.

 

This fun, popular annual sporting event is scheduled on September 5, in 2010, and promises all kinds of entertainment during and after the race, including musical bands and hundreds of people cheering along the way, as well as a post-race concert, in which everybody is invited, along with friends and family.

 

The start line is at The Virginia Beach Convention Center, approximately 1-2 miles from most oceanfront hotels, and the finish line is on the Boardwalk at 13th Street, where the Finish Line Beach Party awaits the runners, with plenty of live entertainment, refreshments and lots of fun.
